Under 13 Rugby Success

Ashfold U13As are runners-up at the St Hugh's Rugby Tournament.

Ashfold's U13A rugby squad beat Spratton Hall, St Hugh's and Abingdon Prep to make the final of the St Hugh’s Super 12’s Tournament on Wednesday 21 September. They emerged as outstanding runners-up following a tough final against Winchester House.

In their first match against Spratton Hall, the team dominated from the start with 2 tries in the first 3 minutes. After letting Spratton Hall score just before half time, Ashfold re-grouped in the 2nd half and scored their 3rd try of the match, after some excellent work at the breakdown by the forwards. Their next match against St Hugh’s was a tighter affair with both teams working hard in defence. A well worked move resulted in the only try of the game for Ashfold who topped the group and went through to the semi-finals to face Abingdon Prep. The team controlled the match right from the first whistle and were rampant in scoring 4 tries without reply to cruise their way through to the final. The final turned out to be a tough match against a well drilled Winchester House side and despite giving everything in the second half, they couldn’t find the breakthrough they needed, ending as runners-up. The squad were superb all afternoon in their conduct both on and off the pitch. Thank you to their coach, Mr Mountford, who was incredibly proud of all the boys.
