Form IV Classics Trip
Form IV discovered more about Roman Britain during a three-day residential Classics trip.
They started with a visit to Chedworth Roman Villa, followed by the Corinium Museum in Cirencester where the children had a go at making mosaics as well as visiting the museum galleries and learning how to think like an archaeologist.
They then travelled to a youth hostel on the quayside in Bristol for supper and some free time before bed. The following day, they went on to the old Roman fortress town of Caerleon in South Wales, once home to Augustus’ 2nd Legion, where they visited the baths, the barracks and the amphitheatre. There was time for a short tour of some of the sites of Bristol, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the S.S. Great Britain, before an exciting visit to laser quest in an old underground fire station.
On the final day, they visited the Roman Baths in Bath, where they enjoyed a tour of the site and a teaching session which included mosaic making and writing on replica wax tablets.
Well done to all the children for behaving so well and making the most of the opportunities on offer.
