Scholars Club trip to RAF Halton
The Scholars’ Club found out what it was like in a World War I trench on a visit to a replica trench system at RAF Halton, with the cold weather and nearby firing range adding to the experience!
Afterwards, the scholars warmed up in the flight simulator area with many getting to fly an RAF Chipmunk over our capital city. Some even got to try out actual flight trainers from the 1950s and were given a basic lesson in aeronautics.
After lunch the boys and girls were given a talk on the guns used by the RAF and then were allowed to get up close to a huge amount of memorabilia from RAF Halton’s long and distinguished past. A highlight was sitting in a Gnat trainer jet.
Huge thanks to the RAF Education Section and museum volunteers for a really interesting day out.
