Ashfold wins Academic Challenge
A team of four children in Form IV beat teams from nine other prep schools to win the annual St Edward’s Academic Challenge.
A team a four children from Form IV beat teams from prep schools including Summerfields, the Dragon, Ludgrove, Bilton Grange and Davenies to win the Academic Challenge, held annually at St Edward’s, Oxford.
The teams were introduced to lots of subjects (many new to them) including Italian, law, debating, political philosophy and the coral reef crisis. The children had to assimilate lots of information and were challenged to identify linguistic patterns, present well-reasoned arguments and even contemplate how they would start a country after a Zombie Apocalypse!
Following a tour of the School and a good lunch, the children were introduced to philosophy, including an interesting discussion on whether films should have a quota on the number of lines for female characters.
Huge congratulations to the whole team who rose to the Challenge with great energy and enthusiasm.
