Nature Detectives
Pre-Prep I had a wonderful time exploring the school grounds with the education leaders from Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT).
The children went into the woods and became nature detectives looking for clues of animal life. They found bones, seeds, feathers and animal footprints and sorted their finds into groups. They found a letter from the postman in a letterbox under the old oak tree which turned out to be an invitation to join the woodland animals and make a home for them.
So the children became members of various families including rabbits, badgers, foxes, squirrels and hedgehogs; and they got into role by making animal movements and actions. Next they found their (soft toy) families, hiding in the woods and made a home for them in the leaves, under roots, in the hollows and hills.
It was a magical experience and wonderful to be able to make the most of our beautiful grounds and woods.
