Form IV Trip to Sulgrave Manor

Form IV enjoyed visiting Sulgrave Manor, the Elizabethan manor house of Lawrence Washington.

They were hosted by blacksmith, Thomas and maidservant, Kitty who showed them around the rooms which have not changed for 450 years. The children particularly liked seeing how swaddled babies would be hung on walls to keep them away from the rats and how a spit-boy’s life was likely to be pretty brutal and short!

The children also took a look inside the forge to see how the poorer Elizabethans had to live and work. In the afternoon, many of them (and Mrs Hern!) took part in a role play on the life of Henry VIII and learned a great deal about the fate of his six wives. All-in-all a really super way to finish a half term of History.
