Form IV Trip to Sulgrave Manor

Form IV started their look back at Tudor times with a trip to Sulgrave Manor.

Their busy day started with an investigation of the types of clothes rich and poor Tudors wore. They then took a tour of the Elizabethan manor house. There were plenty of questions about the Tudor kitchen and the types of food available before they moved up to the main bedroom and finished off in the Great Hall.

The blacksmith’s hovel in the grounds proved to be in stark contrast to the relative splendour of the mansion. After a sandwich lunch and a trip to the shop, the children were given a taster of what a Tudor schoolroom was like and the chance to write using a quill and ink.

The day finished with some simple games like Nine Men’s Morris and a quick country dance! The children’s enthusiasm for the past was very evident and their knowledge of Tudor times has certainly increased.
