Heritage

Dorton House is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean Mansion built between 1596 and 1626. An historical survey was completed in 2002 and English Heritage listed it as a building at risk in 2004. No restoration or renovation has been carried out since the late 19th and early 20th century.

The Clock Court, with its cobbled courtyard, was built about the same time as the house. The buildings originally used to house the coaches and horses.

The building contains Jacobean plaster work which is of great historical value and we are conserving the whole building for the benefit, not only of the school, but for lovers of fine architecture and scholars of Jacobean architecture.
Please see History of Dorton House for a link to many old pictures.

The preservation plan is to:

1.  Renovate and conserve the external fabric of Dorton House to ensure its
      continuance as an asset to all;
2.  Renovate the Jacobean plaster;
3.  Balance the renovation and conservation with its use as a school;
4.  Be completed over a ten year period.
